On 27 June 2013, member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) adopted the Marrakesh Treaty for persons with print disabilities. Teresa Hackett, EIFL Copyright and Libraries Programme Manager, looks back at this great achievement, examines the treaty’s take-up over the last decade, and calls on governments to speed up implementation into national law.

In January 2023, we named four winners of the EIFL Public Library Innovation Award for Public Libraries enabling learning through play. With support from the LEGO Foundation, representatives of the four winning libraries, from Colombia, Kenya, Lithuania and Serbia, travelled to Aarhus in Denmark to participate in the Next Library Festival 2023 (14-16 May). Ramune Petuchoivaite, Manager of the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme, travelled with the four winners.

Ramune Petuchoviate, EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) Manager, shares a series of training videos, made using microlearning methodology, for training public librarians and public library trainers.
In January 2023, EIFL wrote to the President of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, requesting that he sign the Copyright Bill 2022 (SBs. 688 & 769) into law at the earliest opportunity. In March 2023, the President assented to the Copyright Act, rebooting Nigeria’s copyright system for the next generation.

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2022 took place from 28 November to 2 December 2022 in hybrid format, with remote participation online and in-person participation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. EIFL’s Ramune Petuchovaite reflects on shifts in debates at the Forum and highlights two reports that will be useful for policymakers working in the area of digital inclusion.
