Bulgaria became an EIFL project country in 2009 with the launch of the European Commission (EC) funded OpenAIRE (Open Access Infrastructure for Research in Europe) project.
The project, for which EIFL coordinated activities in 10 Eastern European countries, launched an e-infrastructure, open science policies and created a network of experts to support researchers in meeting the requirements of the EC’s open access policies (which make all research funded by the EC open access). The EIFL Open Access programme worked in partnership with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.
EIFL was involved in public library development in Bulgaria from 2011 - 2014 when we we provided grants to ‘Lyuben Karavelov’ Regional Library, located in Ruse, to address long-term unemployment issues by introducing an innovative library service for community members over 40 (in 2011), and an innovative pilot project addressing financial literacy for youth (in 2014).
