The EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) has completed a series of‘ ‘Small Bites’ training videos for public librarians and public library trainers on the topic of Planning and developing a public library project.
The aim of the videos is to build librarians' capacity to plan, budget and develop projects that introduce library services that use technology to meet the needs of their communities.
The completed series comprises five short videos each focused on a different aspect of the topic:
- Crafting clear goals and objectives for a project
- Building a work plan for your library project
- Describing results and choosing indicators for your library project
- Developing a realistic budget for your library project
- Writing a budget justification for your library project
The material was developed and the videos were recorded by EIFL team members Ramune Petuchovaite, EIFL-PLIP Manager, and Ugne Lipeikaite, EIFL-PLIP Impact Manager.
This is the second completed series of EIFL-PLIP Small Bites videos. In 2024 we developed and released three videos on the topic of Public library performance and outcome evaluation. The videos on this topic aim to build librarians’ capacity to develop services that meet real community needs; to evaluate how well services meet these needs, and to use evaluation data to demonstrate achievements to local government officials, funders, partners and communities.

The EIFL-PLIP Small Bites are based on EIFL-PLIP’s experience of building capacity of public librarians and supporting the development of technology-based public library services in Africa. Video content includes real-life examples of public library projects implemented by EIFL grantees.
In creating the videos the EIFL-PLIP team was guided by micro-learning methodology, a relatively new approach in the e-learning field. The methodology breaks learning content into small chunks, or units, and creates learning resources focused on a specific practical issue or learning outcome. The aim is to create a quick but complete learning experience that enables learners to grasp and apply knowledge immediately.
