Iryna Kuchma, EIFL Open Access Programme Manager, has written a chapter in a book on skilling library staff, researchers and the public to run a citizen science project.
The book, ‘Citizen Science Skilling for Library Staff, Researchers, and the Public’, is a practical guide designed to assist those organizing and participating in a citizen science project to get the most out of the experience. Topics covered include setting up a project from the start, communicating to stakeholders and citizens, managing data and outputs and ensuring research benefits.

Kuchma’s chapter, titled ‘Planning and Securing Resources — The Data Management Plan’, is about creating data management plans that support citizen science data in complying with FAIR principles, that is, ensuring Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability of data.
The guide has been compiled by the LIBER Citizen Science Working Group and pulls together contributions from the open science community. It is one of a four-part book series titled ‘Citizen Science for Research Libraries’ that aims to provide access to the new open infrastructures and open science know-how that libraries have on offer for citizen science projects.
