ABOUT THE RESOURCE
The video [3 min, 59 sec] was filmed on location in Kibera, a vast urban slum on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city, where thousands of families live in poverty. Schools are critically under-resourced and children must learn in classrooms that do not have electricity, computers or internet access. Poor education means that children struggle to pass exams; lack of access to technology further disadvantages them in a job-market that increasingly demands computer skills.
The video shows how a small public library uses tablet computers to help schoolchildren in the slum overcome these challenges.
The Kenya tablet computers service was supported by a grant from the EIFL Public Library Innovation Programme in 2012/13.
