During next week's (eresearch.ac.za/home_er) eResearch Africa conference, hosted by ASAUDIT, the Association of South African University IT Directors, Najla Rettberg and Lars Holm Nielsen will present OpenAIRE during a webinar on Wednesday, November 26 at 15.30 (UCT +2).
About the webinar
Science set free: scientific output and open science policies for Europe and beyond
Najla Rettberg will give a virtual presentation about OpenAIRE, the European Open Access infrastructure to manage scientific publications and associated data via repository networks. The presentation includes a general overview of OpenAIRE, and the OpenAIRE services offered to different stakeholders – researchers, data provider, research managers and funding agencies. The OpenAIRE guidelines will be presented as the OpenAIRE approach to repository interoperability, including OpenAIRE compatibility for DSpace repositories.
Najla Rettberg is the scientific manager of OpenAIREplus. She is based at the University of Göttingen in the Electronic Publications Unit of the library. Her background is in scholarly communication, open access and digital preservation, and has worked in a variety of library-based organisations around Europe.
Lars Holm Nielsen will discuss a focused approach to research data management in the development of Zenodo, the repository platform developed by OpenAIRE and hosted at CERN. Big science is changing the way science is being conducted. As research projects get bigger, and more and more researchers spend their time writing software instead of writing publications. Similarly, the long-tail of science produces a growing number of scientific code. The effort put into writing high quality scientific software is however largely unrecognized in the academic monetary unit, i.e. citations. OpenAIRE has made software citation a lot simpler via Zenodo in a recently launched one-click integration with GitHub, a large collaboration platform for sharing and hosting source code.
